Two peas, in Two COMPLETELY Different Pods

One of the silliest things someone has said to me since I became a mother of twins was said while observing the boys eat. Benjamin made a terrible face and just about spit his squash across the room. I then offered Matthew a bite, and his response was "more". Then came the comment: "You would think that since they are identical they would both like the same thing." This must be a misunderstanding many people have regarding multiples. Benjamin and Matthew are identical twins. They have, the same eye color, and same hair color, same blood type, and pretty much the same facial features in every way. Aside from those few things, that is about ALL they have in common.
Benjamin is a bit of a bully. He's very loud! He loves to jibber jabber, and is alwasy up for sitting on my lap and looking at books. He loves hugs, kisses, cuddles, and tickles whenever someone is offering them. He, (like all his siblings) hates the word "no". However, when told "no" for the most part he will move along to something else and think nothing of it. When offered food he would prefer to eat noodles, bread, or cookies.
Matthew has a softer voice (although his scream is high pitched). He would much prefer sitting beside me, than sitting on my lap. He will respond with what is already a very clear defiant attitude when told "no". He doesn't want to be touched, poked, or picked at unless he is in the mood for it. He prefers meats, fruits, and yummy peas in his meals.
These boys are the best of friends, and also at times (when both wanting the same toy) they are the worst of enemies. The enjoy hugging, kissing, licking, talking, and playing with each other, as well as hitting, kicking, poking, biting, pushing, shoving, and pulling hair when necessary. I hope that their status as "identical" will not taint their very individual, unique personalities!

Mystery of History

Along with our Christian Liberty History, I am attempting MOH with the children. My oldest is 7, and the youngest who sits on on these lessons is 3... So. We officially started seriously January 12th. I realize this is intended for older students, but I am excited to learn as well during this adventure. We will be going through the book more for introduction to some of World history. We'll pick it up again with everyone probably in Middle School. I will be blogging as we go through this journey. Let's see how long it takes us!!
The start of the time-line (we've added quite a bit since this pic)

We are doing a "mini-notebook" instead of memory cards. Since the kiddos are still a little young for the memorization. Having a 'mini-book' to look at will help them to retain some of what we learn.

Let the New Year Begin

We are already 2 weeks into the new year, and they have been packed with lots of life lessons already. I've started a new routine in the mornings. Well, prayerfully it will end up as a new routine at least. For the past several months I have gone through the same cycle every morning - coffee pot on, feed the munchkins, pour coffee, then plop in front of the t.v. to catch up on the morning news. However Tuesday morning started a bit differently. My heart has been burdened lately over several issues concerning things going on in the world in and around us, spiritual issues, having nothing to do with what the news reporter will tell me. So, instead of sitting down in front of the t.v., I opened the laptop, pulled up www.desiringgod.org and just randomly picked a sermon to listen to. WHAT A IMPACT IT HAD!!! Starting your day with the word of God filling your thoughts, heart, soul, and mind is SO much better than listening to who killed who on the news, or who was injured in a house fire. Starting my day with a lesson from the scriptures instead of garbage on the tube has given me strength and the fuel I need to get through my day. "Just a closer walk with thee"...isn't that what it's all about? Pick up that manual for life each morning before the remote!! It's the WORD OF GOD...let it sink in...the word of God...wow! Exciting isn't it!?!?!?
