Two peas, in Two COMPLETELY Different Pods
One of the silliest things someone has said to me since I became a mother of twins was said while observing the boys eat. Benjamin made a terrible face and just about spit his squash across the room. I then offered Matthew a bite, and his response was "more". Then came the comment: "You would think that since they are identical they would both like the same thing." This must be a misunderstanding many people have regarding multiples. Benjamin and Matthew are identical twins. They have, the same eye color, and same hair color, same blood type, and pretty much the same facial features in every way. Aside from those few things, that is about ALL they have in common.
Benjamin is a bit of a bully. He's very loud! He loves to jibber jabber, and is alwasy up for sitting on my lap and looking at books. He loves hugs, kisses, cuddles, and tickles whenever someone is offering them. He, (like all his siblings) hates the word "no". However, when told "no" for the most part he will move along to something else and think nothing of it. When offered food he would prefer to eat noodles, bread, or cookies.
Matthew has a softer voice (although his scream is high pitched). He would much prefer sitting beside me, than sitting on my lap. He will respond with what is already a very clear defiant attitude when told "no". He doesn't want to be touched, poked, or picked at unless he is in the mood for it. He prefers meats, fruits, and yummy peas in his meals.
These boys are the best of friends, and also at times (when both wanting the same toy) they are the worst of enemies. The enjoy hugging, kissing, licking, talking, and playing with each other, as well as hitting, kicking, poking, biting, pushing, shoving, and pulling hair when necessary. I hope that their status as "identical" will not taint their very individual, unique personalities!
